THE PROBLEM

SocialFi apps kept trying to out-build the social networks and losing. AlfaFrens didn't compete on the feed: it focused on the one thing crypto could do better — paying creators by the second — and let subscribers walk the moment the content stopped being worth it.

WHAT I BUILT
  • A mobile-first PWA for gated creator chats. Subscribe to a creator with a Superfluid money stream, cancel instantly, chat inside the gate. Creators see every message; subscribers see a curated feed.
  • Farcaster login and Frames-based distribution with invite codes — five per user — so onboarding lived inside the social posts where the audience already was.
  • The $AF token economy: 30% of subscription revenue to the creator, 70% streamed to stakers, staking, invite rewards paid from invitees' activity, and Quality and Activity scoring to keep low-effort channels from dominating.
  • Gasless UX on Base — users never pay transaction fees, the app covers them — and the throughput work once volume spiked and the chain itself became the bottleneck.
  • Fast iteration off live usage: emoji reactions, mute, channel categories shipped in; the trading feed pulled when users ignored it.
OUTCOME

It went viral: over 20,000 users in the first two weeks. Within three quarters the app had onboarded 38,000 users, started 79,000 subscriptions, carried 738,000 messages and distributed $3.7 million — $789,000 to creators and $2.9 million to stakers.

It brought 38,000 new wallets onto Superfluid and put more consumer load on the protocol than anything before it.
